Cleanup Starts Campaign

Contributed Photos

Brenda Foskey-Cyrus, who’s running for alderman in Newhallville’s Ward 21, where Katrina Jones is not seeking reelection, sent in the following photos and writeup of her campaign launch.

Earlier this month, while visiting with neighbors on Ford Street, Foskey-Cyrus heard several complaints of trash and debris accumulating
behind the now-closed Urban Youth Center on Dixwell Avenue. In response, she organized a community clean-up day as the means by which to launch her campaign.

On Saturday, July 23, neighbors, campaign volunteers, families from the area, and passersby came out to pick up litter, rake leaves, and pile up old furniture that had been strewn around the lot. One of Foskey-Cyrus’ granddaughters worked the voter registration table and after the work was done, hot-dogs, hamburgers and shade trees provided the backdrop for a bit of rest and conversation.

Work’s done. Time to relax and have a laugh. Brenda is pictured with neighbor, Edwin, from Ford Street.
