Today’s WNHH radio programs covered race in New Haven’s sports scene past, present and future, planned a little for wintery road conditions, and looked at what we are doing to bring technology and digital learning into the classroom.

Willie Holmes joined Tom Ficklin on his eponymous show. They discussed the history of black athletes like Charley Sifford, and Holmes’ own work with New Haven’s Knickerbocker Club, one of the only (and now last surviving) all African-American gold clubs. Because our country today seems to be reeling with calls for Muslim exclusion and other extreme measures in the wake of the San Bernardino terror attack, This Day In New Haven History” is making a special excursion back to the first week after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. For example, while the 150th anniversary of the Bill of Rights adoption into the Constitution was being marked, reminding us of the ultimate stakes of war,” beneath that article is a photograph of Stuart G. Sears, of 715 Quinnipiac Ave., a Fair Haven Man In Battle Zone.” He was stationed at Pearl Harbor just prior to the outbreak of hostilities, and no word yet on his fate.
