Tuesday’s programs on WNHH radio covered how New Haveners do Kwanzaa, the view from the state Capitol … and the one from prison.

Elaine Peters, Gloria Richardson, and Marci Lynn Jones of the Community Kwanzaa Association joined host Michelle Turner on The Show.” They discussed what the celebration of Kwanzaa has come to signify for them — and for many Elm Citizens — since its inception in the mid-1960s, and what a special New Haven celebration on Dec. 26 will entail. Ex-inmates Chandra Bozelko and Lawrence Dressler appeared with host Paul Bass on Dateline New Haven.” They discussed their time in lockup, what it’s like to be outside, the purpose of writing from behind bars, and how the prison system needs to change. Now Bozelko blogs at a site called Prison Diaries and Dressler, at Larry Noodles.

On The Legal Eagle,” host Marcia Chambers welcomed State Rep. Lonnie Reed, who serves the 102nd General Assembly district in Branford. They discussed much-maligned state budget issues, the Democratic caucus, and energy policy. To listen to the full episode, click on or download the above audio.

From 1942, Allan Appel and Jason Bischoff-Wurstle are bringing the day’s national news. Today, it includes Enemy planes reported seen in California,” reminding New Haveners that the air raid drills planned in our town and the Japanese plane identifications published in the paper are not academic. To the contrary, air raid warning signals are being made uniform throughout the state. We also discuss how boys and girls as young as 13 to 17 are being instructed as junior air raid wardens.” To listen to the full episode, click on or download the above audio.
