Why The Rush?

Jones Lang LaSalle

The state of Connecticut has been talking since, oh, the days of the Rowland Administration (the early-ish days) about building a second garage at Union Station. So more people can actually park near the train station and ride trains instead of clogging highways and polluting the air.

Two governors later, the state’s Department of Transportation (DOT) continues to talk about building it. They’re burning up the tracks with plans.

DOT has issued a project update” on those plans to show how busy it’s been. Two and a half years after receiving an initial $4 million in bonding for preliminary engineering,” the DOT is now ready — to start having someone put together a preliminary engineering report so that preliminary engineering can proceed.

In fact, that preliminary report for the preliminary phase should be done by … mid 2012.” If all goes according to schedule.

The DOT hopes by that time even to have an estimate of how much it will cost to build the second garage (which will be on land between the main station and the Church Street extension bridge that goes over the tracks).
