Join the New Haven Independent for a special photo exhibition, book launch and send-off party in honor of Thomas MacMillan and Melissa Bailey, who have reported stories for the Independent for a combined 15 years.
The party takes place on Wednesday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodland Cafe at 1044 Chapel St. (in Sherman’s Alley, right next to Union League). Toasts at 6:45 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
Join us to celebrate:
• Opening day of a photo exhibit featuring 20 images of our fair city and its denizens, taken by Tom and Melissa over the past eight years. The photos will hang at Woodland Cafe from July 30 to Aug. 31.
• The launch of a new book, School Reform City: Voices from an American Experiment, a collection of 10 human stories Melissa has written about students, teachers and parents on the front lines of the city’s school reform effort. The book will be available in print and electronic form.
• Melissa and Tom’s next adventures in New York and Boston. (Melissa is taking a yearlong Nieman Fellowship at Harvard. Tom is moving to Brooklyn. Their last day of work is Wednesday.)
