Young Quarterback Scores In National Competition

A New Haven student was scouted to play football in a national competition in South Carolina in January — and he’s only 9 years old.

Jeremiah Shaw, a student at Mauro Sheridan Magnet School, was selected as one of the top 60 youth football players in his grade level nationally to play in the DMAXX Youth All-American Bowl in Myrtle Beach Jan. 3. He was one of more than 8,500 students originally nominated on the basis of stats and game videos.

Shaw plays for the East Haven Yellow Jackets in the American Youth Football League. His teammate Brian Lastomirsky was also selected to play in the Youth Bowl in January. Shaw was selected as a quarterback and Lastomirsky as a linebacker.

Shaw’s parents said their son’s success in sports have also led to increased work ethic and enthusiasm in the classroom.
