State Announces Arts Impact Findings

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Office of the Arts has announced the results of a national, arts-industry-specific economic-impact study released earlier this year by Americans for the Arts.
Language in Arts & Economic Prosperity IV in the State of Connecticut says the study “provides compelling new evidence that the nonprofit arts and culture are a significant industry in the State of Connecticut—one that generates $653 million in total economic activity. This spending—$455.5 million by nonprofit arts and culture organizations and an additional $197.5 million in event-related spending by their audiences—supports 18,314 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $462.5 million in household income to local residents, and delivers $59.1 million in local and state government revenue.”
According to the Americans for the Arts website, the national study examined “data collected from 182 participating study regions. Those 182 regions include 139 individual cities and counties, 31 multi-city regions, 10 states, and two arts districts and represent all 50 states and the District of Columbia.”

A spokesperson from the state Office of the Arts said the report would be posted on the state’s website on Monday. Detailed information about Arts & Economic Prosperity IV can be found on the Americans for the Arts website.
