The Board of Education (BOE) anticipates voting on the proposed 2015 – 16 school budget tonight (Wednesday) when the board meets at 7 p.m. at Branford High School. This is a corrected version of the school budget, originally announced at $52.4 million last week and now revised to $53.4 million. The announcement of the revision came at a BOE budget workshop meeting last night.

Superintendent Hamlet Hernandez. recommended some additional refinements” last night that trimmed $144,428 from the proposed operating budget he introduced last week. Hernandez said the new numbers reflect a 2.02 percent increase over last year’s budget, instead of the 2.29 percent he discussed last week.

One of the most sizeable changes last night was a $90,508 reduction in certified salaries, due to an additional three retirements. Hernandez said that brings the total number of retirements to seven, including one administrative position which will not be filled.

The capital budget was not introduced at the budget workshop last night, but it is expected to be discussed tonight.
