he Branford Boys’ Soccer team won their opening game last week with an impressive 6 – 0 victory over rival East Haven and played well enough on Tuesday to win their second game, but came up short losing to the Lyman Hall Trojans 2 – 0 at Flax Mill Field, their temporary home.
Flax Mill is being used while the repair work on the main field at the James L. MacVeigh Alumni Athletic Center is being completed.
“Sometimes you learn more from a loss then a win,” said coach Paul Hunter to his team after the game. He told the team they played an “excellent” game that just fell short.
Lyman Hall scored both goals in the first half on shots by senior captain Jonathan Beaucejour on assists from junior Kevin Ransom.
His first goal was a blast from the left side that screamed by Branford goalie Nicholas Cordero (pictured) at 9:25. His second goal hugged the ground and snuck under Cordero’s outstretched arms in the corner of the net at 59:00.

Overall the Hornets outshot Lyman Hall 12 – 3.

Lyman Hall goalkeeper Andrew Mastroianni made several outstanding saves for the Trojans holding the Hornets in check throughout the game.
Since the loss to Lyman Hall, Branford played Sheehan Friday at Flax Mill Field winning 3 – 0 to improve their record to 2 – 1.
