Boys Track Splits With Cross, Guilford

Kory King won three events including the 110 high hurdles in 16.8.

The Branford boys’ outdoor track team held their first tri meet last Friday, defeating the Guilford Indians 90 to 59, while losing to Wilbur Cross by a narrow score of 78 to 71.

Senior Seraphin Tala clears the bar in the high jump at 5’10 to win the event.

The Hornets’ record improved to 2 – 1. They defeated Career in a dual match earlier in the month.

The Hornet’s won eight of the 17 meet events with senior Kory King winning three, the 110 high hurdles, triple jump and pole vault with teammate Seraphin Tala winning both the high jump and the 300 IH (Intermediate Hurdles).

King and Tala did well today,” said coach Rich Biondi (pictured). Winning two events is excellent winning, three is very special.”

King won the 110 high hurdles in 16.8, the triple jump with a jump of 38.4 and tied for the pole vault with freshman teammate Justin Dombrowski both clearing the bar at 9’0.

Tala, also a senior, won the high jump with the bar set at 5’10 and the 300 Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 43.3.

The Hornets also won the discus when senior Dan Cullen had a heave of 91’9.

Teammate Noah Lordan finished fourth.

In the closest race of the day, the 4 X 800, freshman Marzio Mastroianni, running the last leg, was edged at the finish line by Miguel Hernandez of Cross.

Mastroianni got some revenge later in the meet by winning the 800m with a time of 2:14.2 beating Hernandez by 1.5 seconds.

David Donnelly took second place in the 400 meters.

Senior Jayden Sullivan passes the baton to Andrew Byrne in the 4x400.

Junior Spencer Berty finished third in the Triple Jump.
