Branford Cops Crack Down on Holiday DUI Drivers

Branford P..D.

The Branford police have announced they are on the lookout big time for intoxicated drivers this Thanksgiving weekend and onto the Christmas holidays and beyond.

Never shy about pursuing speeding motorists or stopping drivers who drive without registrations or driver’s licenses, the police are concentrating on drunk driving in the weeks ahead.

Their effort is in part the result of a grant the police department received from the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Its aim is to reduce drunk driving. Drink, Drive, Lose,” is the slogan.

Last year officers removed four drunk drivers from Branford roadways.

But that wasn’t all. The officers issued 236 citations for moving violations and warned over 184 drivers while stopping a total of 456 motorists during the grant period, which covers all of the major holidays.

This grant allows our department to supplement our overall mission of making our roadways safe during the holidays,” said Chief Kevin Halloran. Intoxicated drivers pose a substantial risk to other drivers and the public and our aim is to eliminate Driving Under the Influence.’”
