Branford Man’s Body Found on Tabor Land

Branford P.D.

UPDATE — State police, Branford police and state prosecutors are investigating the suspicious death of Joseph Miller, 28, a Branford man whose body was discovered this morning deep into the town’s 77-acre Tabor property off Tabor Drive. (See top map)

Branford police believe Miller had been lying on the side of the dirt roadway that connects the end of Ark Road to Pine Orchard Road, since last evening, Detective Lt. John Finkle said. Detective Finkle is leading the investigation.

Late today police identified the man as Miller. His last known address was 25 Yowago Ave. The body was found on the Tabor property. (See top photo.) Miller was not carrying any identification when he was found, police said. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the police at 203 – 481-4241 or the Branford Crime Tip Line at 203 – 315-3909.

The state’s police major crime bureau and the New Haven State’s attorney’s office are assisting the Branford Police Department in the investigation, which began at 7:30 a.m. today when a public works employee came upon the body on the side of a road.

A Branford police car was parked at the entry way to the path near Tabor Drive road for most of the day.

The death is suspicious,” said Police Capt. Geoff Morgan, in the sense that we’re not exactly sure what happened here,” he said while at the scene.

However, the cause of death has not yet been determined. The Office of the chief medical examiner is now involved in the case, police said.

Public works employees are often in the area because the public works department stores construction and road millings nearby, Morgan said.

Police are now trying to determine the circumstances of Miller’s death. We are piecing it all together,” Morgan said. Police also located a car nearby that belonged to one of Miller’s relatives.
