Student Readers Honored

Scores of children were honored Saturday for their achievement as their schools’ best readers” over the summer break.

They and their parents came to the Branford Green for a ceremony during which they received reading medals. We caught up with some of the classes from some of the schools as they received their medals.

Special recognition went to those kids who read the most books over the summer regardless of the grade they were in. Each received a new Kindle. They represented Mary T. Murphy Elementary School, John B. Sliney Elementary School, Mary R. Tisko Elementary School and Walsh Intermediate School.

The afternoon’s festivities drew a strong crowd.

Somehow Branford Education Foundation founder and board president Bob Babcock managed to find funds for the kindles.

Here are the other Tisko winners. ( See top photo.)

Here’s the group from Sliney along with Principal Dr. Susan Iwanicki-Smith.

Peter Anaclerio, the newly appointed vice-principal at Walsh, was on hand to congratulate the Walsh students.
