Wow! Something for everyone this weekend, especially the kids. Outdoors there is the great Blackstone Library Book sale on the Branford Green along with the historic Guilford Agricultural Fair. There’s even a clean-up slated for the Farm River. Indoors, there’s a special house tour in Pine Orchard.

Friends of Blackstone Library Annual Books Sale. The annual Friends of the Library book sale takes place from Thursday, Sept.18 to Sunday, Sept. 21. Branford Green.

Thursday, Sept.18, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. ((preview night for members of the Friends and dealers)
Friday, Sept.19, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 21, noon to 5 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 19.

Guilford Agricultural Fair starts today at the town’s Fairgrounds, 111 Lovers Ln in Guilford. The Guilford Fair was founded in 1859. Gates open at 1 p.m.

Orange County Fair starts today. The fair is located at 525 Orange Center Road. It opens tonight at 6 p.m. with a Truck Pull that goes until it finishes. Free Entry on Friday only.

Thimble Island Saxophone Quartet

This free concert, sponsored by the Branford Musical Arts Society, takes place at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Islands Road. This is music across the ages from Bach and Mozart to Gershwin, Bernstein and Ellington. For more information, call 203 – 481-6952.

Saturday, Sept. 20

Guilford Fair: Saturday is the big day, with gates opening at 9 a.m. and closing at 11 p.m. 

The Citizens’ parade begins at 10 a.m., The Mariners perform on Saturday morning and the antique tractor pull gets underway at 11:30 a.m. Catch the Llama show at 12:30 p.m. and hang around for the rest of the day and night. Great events will unfold.

Orange Fair: Gates open at 8:a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Adults, $8.00, seniors, $5.00 Children 15 and under Free. Free Parking.

Stop by at 10:30 a.m. for the Pork Chop Pig Racing in the Lower Field, which repeats at various times during the day. 5 In the Chamber,” a blue grass band, gets underway at 3:30 p.m. in the Gazebo. 

Clean Up the Farm River

Come spend the morning with friends getting garbage out of the marsh. 9 a.m. to noon. Bring kayaks, canoes or motorboat. Or call 203 – 988-6484 if you don’t have a boat but want to help. Meet at the Marina of the Farm River State Park. Driving entrance to the Marina is opposite 158 Mansfield Grove Road in East Haven. Access gate is open from 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. only. 

Sunday, Sept. 21

Guilford Fair: Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Feature attractions include the Donkey & Mule Show, and the Draft Oxen. 

Orange Fair: Many events today. There’s the Antique Car Show which gets underway at 10 a.m. in front of the Fairgrounds and the Marvelous Mutts Demonstration, in the Lower Field at 2 p.m.

Branford: Inside the Doors of Pine Orchard” will provide visitors with a tour of seven Pine Orchard homes. This is a rare treat. The Tour is sponsored by St. Therese Church. Tickets are $40 on Saturday and $45 on Sunday and may be purchased by calling the Church at 203 – 488-2998. Included in the price is a buffet lunch at the Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club. Event runs from noon to 4 p.m.
