Make the most of something new this weekend. Three first-ever events debut in and around town. One celebrates classic cars, another gives the nod to beer and the third is a virtuoso performance by two sisters on violin and piano.
Saturday, Sept. 13
Make it or Take it Craft
This is an activity for all in the pre-school age range. Takes place in the pre-school room at the Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each Saturday, there’s a different simple cut, paste, and color craft along with a variety of picture books that have to do with the crafts topic. Coloring pages are included and the craft is setup all day, so you can stop in at any time. Those on a tight schedule can grab that week’s craft and go. No registration is required.
East Rock Festival in New Haven
The festival stretches from Orange Street between Cottage and Willow, features food, live music, dancing, kids’ activities and vendors/exhibitors from around the community. The festival begins at 11 a.m., turning into a “block party” from 6 to 9 p.m. Free.

Medad Beer Tasting in Guilford
First Ever Medad Beer Tasting at the Medad Stone House in Guilford, 197 Three Mile Course, Guilford, 4 to 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Guilford Keeping Society. Tickets $20.
Branford Folk Music Society
First Congregational Church on the Green is the venue. Address is 1009 Main St. Concert is sponsored by Branford Folk Music Society’s 40th anniversary concert series. Showtime is 8 p.m. The Johnson Girls, an all-woman music group, will be featured guests. Admission fee charged.

Classic Car Show
1st Annual Classic Car Show at Van Wilgen’s Garden Center, 51 Valley Rd., North Branford. Sponsored by the Branford Rotary to benefit its charities. $10 to enter car. Free to spectators. Noon to 4 p.m
Concert by the Karkowska Sisters Duo
Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main St. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Kasha Karkowska, pianist and Anna Karkowska, violinist, have performed from Warsaw to New York, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Free. Concert starts at 2 p.m.
