Now you never know about the weather and snow is due today, the first day of spring. But as they say, the show must go on. This weekend combines gardens, food and pets. What could be better?

Come Celebrate the First Days of Spring 

Visit Van Wilgen’s Garden Center this weekend for a taste of spring. This annual event — now in its sixth year — is a weekend for education, ideas and learning about gardening cooking & tastings. Food trucks and 40 vendors will be on hand. Local chefs, including Chef Neil Fuentes of Jojoto in Short Beach and Claire Criscuolo of Claire’s Corner Copia in New Haven will be there. Hours are Friday noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Van Wilgen’s is located at 51 Valley Road (off Route 139) in North Branford. Click here for the weekend’s events. Les Misérables, aka Les Mis.

This play, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, is practically sold-out. The show has been cancelled for Friday night because of snow forecasts. Friday night tickets will be honored on Sunday at an 8 p.m. performance, school officials say. You might get lucky and find a ticket or two for Saturday or Sunday but that’s unlikely. Click here to read our story. Branford High is located at 185 East Main St. Adult tickets are $18; students and seniors tickets are $15. Come to the box office at the high school 30 minutes before the play to purchase yours. Cash or checks accepted.

Three Generations of Swing Guitar

Bucky Pizzarelli, the one and only Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo take the stage at The Kate, the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St.in Old Saybrook. Tickets are from $35 to $38. This will be a great show and it gets underway at 8 p.m. Call 877 – 503-1286 for more information.

Cosgrove Animal Shelter’s Annual Pasta Dinner

The Cosgrove Animal Shelter’s Annual Pasta Dinner will take place at the Italian American Club, 40 Hamre Lane from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A take-out portion has been added this year. This event is family friendly with an awesome DJ, Volunteer of the Year award and lots of food, including, pasta, meatballs, garden salad, dessert; wine and beer available for purchase. Sunday Night Jazz With Dr. Joe & Friends 

Take in strong sounds and great food at the Ayuthai Restaurant in Guilford. Jazz goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
