Cool Events in Branford This Weekend

Arts are front and center again this weekend, but so is the potato and corn festival in North Branford along with a little magic at the Blackstone. There is even a hike along the gorgeous Farm River Estuary. Take your pick. 

Thursday, July 31

Jazz on the Green Series

Saxophonist Elan Troman has six Top 25 Billboard singles and has performed with Paul Brown, Jamie Foxx, Nathan East, and many more. Now he brings his talents to the Branford’s Green in the center of town where anyone can pull up a lawn chair, have a nice picnic and enjoy jazz, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Potato and Corn Festival

Come to the Potato and Corn Festival for a food, crafts, and business expo, carnival, farmers’ market and hayrides. At 8 p.m. on Thursday, American Idol contestant and runner-up, Kendall Phillips will perform. Saturday will bring a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. On Sunday, there will be an entertaining cycle of seven bands in seven hours, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival is open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The festival takes place at Augur Field in North Branford. 

Friday, August 1

Learn about the science of magic at the Blackstone Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Magician, Jon Cap will showcase a few of his own tricks and teach a hands-on workshop to demonstrate how to perform these tricks. Third through sixth graders are welcome. Registration is not required. The Blackstone Memorial Library is located at 758 Main St.

Saturday, August 2

Take a hike at 10 a.m. this Saturday with Shoreline Greenway Trail team members. They will lead you on a hike with views of wondrous marshes, the Farm River Estuary, and the Shoreline Trolley museum trolley track. The hike will take one hour; it is not stroller-friendly. Hikers should convene along Katie Jo Lane, across from the Hearth at Gardenside entrance.

Sunday, August 3

Library Art Show in Stony Creek

The tradition will continue at 4 p.m. at the Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library as professional and amateur artists showcase their work. The subject matter is the Thimble Islands and Stony Creek. All ages are welcome to attend. The show is on until Wednesday, August 27. The Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library is located at 146 Thimble Islands Road.
