Spring Bird Walks (Sunday, too)

The Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program is hosting two spring bird walks this year, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. Local birder Chris Woerner will lead these popular walks along the Stony Creek Trolley Trail and into the Land Trust’s Vedder property. Woerner will help identify the birds by sight and by call. It should be a fun and exciting walk for both adults and families. The Saturday and Sunday walks begin at 8:30 a.m.

Meet in Stony Creek at the far end of West Point Rd., which is across from the Willoughby-Wallace Library. You can choose the day that fits best into your schedule, or for birding enthusiasts, you can even come both days — since the birds we sight will vary on each day. The trail is mostly flat terrain with one steep, rocky hill. Families are welcome, but no dogs. For all BLT walks, please wear appropriate dress and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome. For further information call 203 – 415-1571.

Murder at the Blackstone Library

It’s a night of murder and mystery at the Blackstone Memorial Library! When an author winds up dead at the library, everyone’s a suspect! Who killed Agatha Mystery? Solve the clues, interview suspects and help catch a killer. The performance begins at 7 p.m. It is now sold out. No tickets will be sold at the door. For those who purchased tickets, the evening will include delicious finger foods, deadly drinks, craft beer tasting and a deathly funny interactive play, starring the Round Table Players. All proceeds benefit the Blackstone Library.

English Folk Music Concert

The Branford Folk Music Society presents John Roberts and Tony Barrand, the widely acclaimed English folksong duo in concert on the Branford green. The concert takes place at the First Congregational Church of Branford, 1009 Main St. at 8 p.m. Admission is $15, $12 for members and $5 for children 12 and under. Light refreshments will be available.

Sunday, May 10

Music in the Movies

Professor Nicole Biamonte will show us how music is used in movie soundtracks: it can set the scene, portray emotions, enhance the action, or sometimes contradict the images onscreen. Note date change. Event gets underway at 2 p.m.

Library Expanding Passes

Thanks to the Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library, the library’s Museum Pass menu has now grown to include the Connecticut Audubon Society Pass.

This pass offers free admission to 2 museums, 4 nature centers and 19 sanctuaries. This will be a great way to explore all Connecticut has to offer this summer. One pass per family, no reserves and passes circulate for a total of 2 days still applies.
