Summer may be winding down but events are taking off. Make the most of Labor Day Weekend. Head to a carnival, visit Short Beach Days, go to an open dance party, and check out some perennial plants.
Wednesday, Aug. 27
End of Summer Carnival
Each night from Wednesday to Saturday, the “End of Summer Carnival” takes place on the grounds of St. Elizabeth Church, 65 Burban Dr. There are rides, games, great food and fun. Activities begin each night at 6 p.m. except for Saturday when events get underway at 5 p.m. All events end at 10 p.m. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Eldorado Council #10, which is based at St. Mary’s Church in Branford.

Short Beach Days
The 68th annual Short Beach Days gets underway with a variety of activities including a sand sculpture contest at Johnson’s Beach at noon and a Lip Sync contest at 7 p.m. at Pardee Park.
Perennial Plant Sale
United Methodist Church, 811 E. Main St., 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
End of Summer Carnival

Stony Creek Museum
Don’t let the summer go by without a visit to this special museum located at 84 Thimble Islands Road. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Summer hours are from from 1 to 4 p.m. Museum is closed in winter.
Sunday, Aug. 31
Short Beach Days continues with rubber duck races at noon, sack races at 1 p.m. and other activities, all held at Pardee Park. There are free Trolley rides from Short Beach station at the end of Court Street to East Haven. Rides begin at 4 p.m. From 7 to 10 p.m., Spencer Luckey and the Strangers Band take the stage at Pardee Park.
Monday, Sept. 1.
Short Beach Labor Day parade (rain or shine), featuring great floats. takes place along Short Beach Road, starting at 11 a.m. Marching bands, including the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corp, participate in the parade. Bring a chair.
