Cool Events Labor Day Weekend Here & Beyond

Let’s make the most of this Labor Day Weekend, the last fling of summer. Plenty of sunshine is predicted over the long weekend as family events get underway in Madison, Orange and Branford. Lots of food, music, rides and fun await you.

Friday, Sept. 4, Saturday, Sept. 5, Sunday, Sept 6. and Monday, Sept. 7

Greek Festival in Orange

Great Greek food, dance, music, rides and games are on the menu at the Odyssey, a four-day Green Festival that gets underway today.
The event, now in its 35th year, is one of the largest festivals in the state with traditional food favorites (lamb, lamb, lamb) and a variety of pastries. The festival helps to support the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road. The event, rain or shine, starts at noon today and runs to 10 p.m. Hours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday are noon to 8 p.m.

Short Beach Days

The 69th annual Short Beach Days gets underway with a variety of activities including a sand sculpture contest at Johnson’s Beach at 1 p.m. Saturday, a Lip Sync contest at 7 p.m. at Pardee Park, Family Day on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Sack races for kids) and free Trolley rides from Short Beach to East Haven, starting Sunday at 4:15 p.m. at Court Street

On Monday comes the great Labor Day Parade, complete with families, friends, floats and bands of all types. Grab a chair and find a spot on Short Beach Road to watch it all. Event begins at 11 a.m.

The concession stand at Pardee Park is open throughout the weekend for breakfast, a burger, a hotdog and the special of the day.

Madison Rotary Carnival 

Lots of fun, food, rides along with the Expo Wheel at the Madison Rotary this weekend. The carnival opens tonight from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Take exit 61 on I‑95. Go South to Route 1. Academy Street and the Field are on the right. Admission fee at the gate.
