Thursday, June 26

Terra Tractus: The Earth Moves

Projects 2k hosts four more showings of Terra Tractus” at the Stony Creek Quarry from June 26 to June 29. The multimedia experience starts each night at about 8:30 p.m. and tells the geological and man-made history of the Quarry. Parking and shuttles are available from the Walsh Intermediate School starting at 6:15 p.m. Click here for an article with more detailed information. 

Branford Jazz Series

The Branford Jazz Series opens at 6:30 p.m. for the first of nine performances throughout the summer. The shows take place on the Green every Thursday through August 21. This week’s performer is HOBO CONGRESS, a group featuring a collection of Connecticut’s best Funk, Jazz, Soul, and Jam artists. According to the HOBO CONGRESS Facebook page, members bring their individual skills together to play you a groove so deep you won’t be able to dance yourself out of it.”

For fun in the greater New Haven area, check out the schedule for the International Arts and Ideas festival, which runs through Sunday, June 28 and includes entertainment, educational programming, activities for kids, and more.

Blood Drive

The 2nd annual memorial blood drive will be open from 12:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at St. Therese Church Hall at 105 Leetes Island Rd. The drive honors Kyle Fergus Mooney, who died in 2013 at the age of 18 from leukemia.

Saturday, June 28

A Gardener’s Wedding

The Branford Garden Club opens its flower show to the public this Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. respectively, at the Branford Community House. The theme of this year’s show is A Gardener’s Wedding” and will feature flower arrangements inspired by different wedding categories. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 12 years and under. Click here for an article with more information. 

Church Tag Sales

Do some summer shopping at a tag sale at the Trinity Episcopal Church from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at 1109 Main St. 

Or head to the Short Beach Union Church for a tag sale that runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The address is 11 Pentecost St. 

Thimble Island Boat Tours

Boat tours of the Thimble Islands are offered every weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every hour, with the exception of a 3 p.m. tour on Saturdays. The 45-minute tours take off from the Stony Creek Town Dock. Adult tickets are $12, senior and student tickets are $10 and tickets for children 12 years and under are $7. Large groups should call 203 481‑3345 to make reservations ahead of time.
