Spend your last weekend celebrating the season with a boat parade, sunset jazz or an antique show.

Thursday, August 21

Jazz on the Green Series

Come out to the Green for the final concert in the summer Jazz on the Green series. Jeff Kashiwa will showcase his talents on the saxophone. Kashiwa, (pictured), who is originally from Seattle, has performed all over the world. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Arrive early for good seats.

Friday, August 22

Venture over to the annual Chester Fair. The festivities start at 6 p.m. Friday and continue throughout the weekend. The fair features a tractor pull, rides, food and other activities. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and is free for children under 12 years of age. The fairgrounds are located at 139 Middlesex Turnpike in Chester, CT.

Saturday, August 23

Branford River Parade

Branford Land Trust

For the 16th year, residents will ride their canoes and kayaks from behind Branford High School (BHS) to Branford Point in celebration of the local waters. Those riding should drop boats off behind BHS between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. and drive their cars to Parker Memorial Park at Branford Point. There will then be a shuttle available for participants to ride back to BHS for an 11 a.m. start.

Madison Historical Society Antiques Fair

Head to the Madison Green between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the annual Historical Society Antiques Fair. Now in its 43rd year, the fair will feature an estimated 90 antiques exhibitors from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Admission is $7. 

Sunday, August 24

Back to School Clothing Drive

Local girl scouts are hosting a clothing drive on the Branford Green this Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The scouts are looking for shirts, pants and shoes, but will accept other items as well. All donations will be sent to the Branford Clothing Bank.
