The weather is still beautiful enough to enjoy the outdoors, so join the Branford Land Trust as members explore the area around Young’s Pond or take the kids and build a scarecrow on the green. Check out Birds of Prey in New Haven. And if cats are your thing, there’s a class for that!

Scarecrows on the Branford Green

The fifth annual Scarecrows on the green, sponsored by the Branford Garden Club, runs through Sunday, Nov. 1. Individuals and businesses are invited to create their own. Donations are requested with all proceeds to benefit the Garden Club’s beautification of Branford. For more information and reservations, email [email protected] or visit www.branfordgardenclub.org.

Saturday, Oct. 24

MakerLab: Design & Create 3D Printed Files

Runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Blackstone Library. Learn how to design and create your own 3D files for printing. Join instructor Jim Davis for an introduction to 3D file creation. Jim will walk you through the free 3D modeling software 123Design, from the makers of AutoCAD. Once you learn this software, you’ll be able to design and 3D print your very own creations. Space is limited – register at the library’s website.

Fall Foliage Walk

Enjoy the fall colors as you walk around Young’s Pond and visit Bob’s Woods, which was acquired by the Branford Land Trust in 2004. Scheduled for 10 a.m., this popular Land Trust walk will be led by Truman Sherk, who is well versed on the history and botany of the property. Truman grew up in Branford, is a biologist and has been actively involved in the BLT for many years. It should be an interesting walk for both youngsters and adults!

Park and meet in the large parking lot for Young’s Pond on Blackstone Avenue/Route 146. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 25. Please watch the website or Facebook page for schedule changes.

The Fall Foliage Walk is presented by the Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program, which coordinates a number of events for adults and families throughout the year. All events are free and open to the public. For all BLT walks, please wear appropriate dress and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome. Birds Of Prey Fly to the Peabody Museum

The Yale Peabody presents three shows of birds of prey, including an eagle, a falcon, a hawk, and a barn owl. The Museum is located at 170 Whitney Ave. Shows begin at 11:45 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. in the third-floor auditorium. Check website for admission prices.

Wicked Window Painting Party

Wicked Window Painting Party will take place at 1 p.m. at Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library, 146 Thimble Island Road, Branford. Registration is recommended. Supplies and light refreshments provided.

OktoberFest: Pork Roast Dinner

Tabor Lutheran Church, 45 Tabor Drive, will host its annual OktoberFest Pork Roast Dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost: $14 for adults; $6 for children ages 3 to 12; free for children 3 and younger. Reservations are recommended. Call 203 – 488-2541.

Jaws Of Life Toasts Stony Creek Brewery 

A new Fire Department oiece of equipment, the Jaws of Life, makes its debut at the Stony Creek Brewery, the gift of the brewery’s owner, Ed Crowley. The new equipment will be unveiled at the Brewery; at 5 Indian Neck Ave. Event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Fire officials will demonstrate how the equipment is used in emergency.

Shoreline Community Church Banquet

Sowing Seeds of Hope” Mission Banquet will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Congregational Church. Those attending are asked to bring a main dish either from your country of origin or one of the countries where the church’s missionaries are serving. Parents are encouraged to bring their children at 5:30 to take part in the parade of Nations. For more information, call 203 – 481-8919.

New Senior Center

With Permission

Quisenberry Arcari Architects LLC of Farmington will present plans to renovate and expand the Community House on Church Street for a new Senior Center Department and Parks and Recreation Department. The plans were unveiled this week. This presentation will take place at Canoe Brook Senior Center at 1 p.m.

Cat Care Boot Camp

The class will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at Branford High School, 185 East Main St. Cat expert Sally Bahner ( who is staff writer for the Branford Eagle) will unlock the mysteries of feline behavior. She will also discuss nutrition and health, grooming, kitten/cat selection, alternative modalities and more. Bahner is a longtime editor and writer on all things feline. MIF Monument Dedication

Branford Historical Society

Ceremonies will be held at 3:30 p.m. to dedicate a monument at the site of the former Malleable Iron fittings Company (MIF). The public is invited to attend the ceremonies, which will be held at the flag pole at the entrance to the Stony Creek Brewery at 5 Indian Neck Ave. The brewery was recently built on a portion of the former 23-acre MIF property.
