Saturday, Nov. 14

Holiday Art Show Opening Reception

The Holiday Open House of Small Treasures opening reception take place at Branford Art Center on Saturday, Nov 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., running through December. Featured will be more than 60 small paintings by 22 artists, no larger than 12 x 12, all priced for holiday gift giving. Simple Gifts at Branford Folk Music Society

The duo plays everything from lively Irish gigs and down-home American Reels to hard-driving Klezmer freilachs and haunting Gypsy melodies, and much more. Concerts begin at 8 p.m. at the auditorium of First Congregational Church. Sunday, Nov. 15

Stony Creek Studios Student Show

Stony Creek Studios, 152 Thimble Islands Road, will present a group exhibition of student work in watercolor and oils. The Student Show, which is open to the pubic, will run from Nov. 15 to 22, with an opening reception from 2 to 5 p.m. The Studio will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. The work of more than 20 talented students of the studio will be featured. Subject matter includes landscape and still life. Much of the work will be offered for sale. Personal check or cash accepted.
Stony Creek Studio is a teaching studio run by Christine Chioccio and Maureen Wilkinson, accomplished local artists. Oil painting, watercolor and drawing courses are offered, both in the studio and plein air.For more information, visit http://thestonycreekstudio.com.

MIF Family Day

Former MIF employees, their families and the public are invited to Stony Creek Brewery, 5 Indian Neck Ave., from 3 to 5 p.m. to celebrate the well-known factory and share memories. They’re asked to bring old photographs and any memorabilia. A monument was recently unveiled on the Brewery grounds.

Soup for Good

The annual Soup for Good experience takes place at the Community Dining room, 30 Harrison Ave. from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Besides great soup, bread and wine, you get to choose a soup bowl handcrafted by Guilford Art Center potters. First you use it for your bowl of soup and then you get to take it home. Tickets for Soup for Good are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Proceeds benefit both the Community Dining Room and the Guilford Art Center.

Branford Land Trust Pre-Thanksgiving Walk at the Van Wie Preserve

The Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program holds its Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Walk at 1 p.m. at the Van Wie Preserve, led by Bill Horne and Matt Reed. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and the refreshing fall weather! Meet at the trailhead at 87 Red Hill Road.
Directions: From Exit 56 on I‑95, go south on Leetes Island Road for 0.1 mile, and turn left (east) onto Red Hill Road. Proceed to #87, which is on the right, and park on the right side of the road. For more information call 203 – 415-1571. For all BLT walks, please dress appropriately
and wear comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome. All events are free and open to the public.
