Foley v. McKinney: Voters Decide Tuesday on Republican Candidate for Governor

The town’s seven voting districts will be open for voters tomorrow (Tuesday) as voters decide on the next Republican candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor and Comptroller. Either Tom Foley or John McKinney will emerge as the gubernatorial candidate to square off against Governor Dannel P. Malloy in the November election. The polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Registered Republicans will be able to vote in Tuesday’s primary. (There is no primary race for Democrats.) Unaffiliated and unregistered voters still have to time to vote in the primary if you do so by noon Monday at the town clerk’s office at Town Hall. There are emergency absentee ballot applications on line for this primary. When you arrive at your polling address, remember to bring your ID, for example, a driver’s license. If you do not have a driver’s license, you may use a bank statement or utility bill as long as it was sent to your address.

There are three party-endorsed candidates: Foley, Penny Bacchiochi for Lt. Governor and Sharon J. McLaughlin for Comptroller. The other candidates for Lt. Governor are David M. Walker, a former U.S. comptroller general and Heather B. Somers, the former mayor of Groton.

Foley has not aligned himself with any Lt. Governor candidate, preferring to let the voters decide. McKinney is running with Walker.
