The Branford Hornet’s football team fell to 0 – 2 last Friday with a 34 – 7 loss to the Wilton Warriors. Wilton, a member of the FCIAC conference in Fairfield County was too much for the young Hornets.
The Warriors led 20 – 0 at the half and put the game out of reach with two additional touchdowns in the third quarter.
The Branford band got the crowd going.
Branford coach John Limone’s club played hard but couldn’t penetrate the Warriors defense until quarterback Zach DeGoursey scored on a one yard run with 3:37 left in the third quarter.
Wilton’s Rod Djaly Thoby returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards before being pushed out of bounds at the one yard line. They scored on the next play icing the game. Thoby had two touchdowns in addition to the long return.
The cheerleaders did their part to uplift the spirit of the crowd.
The Hornets were led by senior Carl Williams who rushed 19 times for 100 yards or 5.3 yards per carry and Luke DiStasio who caught three passes for 25 yards.
Noah DeGoursey led the defense with 11 solo tackles and 3 assisted for a total of 14.
