The Branford Lady Hornets broke into the win column a week ago with a 38 – 26 win over the Shelton Gaels at the James L. MacVeigh Alumni Athletic Complex Gym.
The team’s win was a result of both good defense, holding Shelton to only 14 points in the first three quarters, and the hot hand of Adrienne DiGioia. DiGioia is the sophomore who led both teams in scoring with 16 points.
At one point Guilianna Piscitelli (15) Adrienne DiGioia (1) and Kiera Integlia all went for the ball
Co-captain Robin Norbo (pictured) was the next highest scorer with 6 while Kiera Integlia, Julia Munroe and co-captain Courtney Canterbury each chipped in with four. Shelton was led by Casey O’Connor with eight.
Both teams had problems scoring early. Branford only led 7 – 6 after the first period and 15 – 11 at the half. The Hornets outscored Shelton 13 – 3 in the third quarter to go up 28 – 14.
Shelton got untracked in the final stanza outscoring the Hornets 12 – 10 but by then the lead was too large to overcome.
After the victory Branford coach Justin Henry said, “It’s a good feeling getting our first win. I hope it’s the start of things to come”.
Branford is now 1 – 5 while Shelton falls to 3 – 3.
