It’s been a tough season for the Lady Hornets softball team, winning only one game in the first 12 they played this spring. That win was against Wilbur Cross whom they defeated April 25 at home, 20 – 5.
Two weeks ago the Hornets traveled to New Haven to play the same Governors for the second time . What resulted was another lopsided victory performance for the Hornets, this time winning 18 – 4.
“It felt good getting a lot of quality hits and scoring a bunch of runs,” said coach Chuck Reale.
Branford had 15 hits in the game with freshman Jess Shanley getting 4 hits.Co-captain Matilda Kreider and senior Hunter Kelly each got 3 hits.
The Hornets scored in every inning with 1 in the first, 6 in the second and 4 in the third to pull away early.
Behind the pitching of junior Olivia Datre, Cross only had 7 hits.
Kreider also led the Hornets with 3 RBI’s against Cross. Shanley followed with 2 and Kelly (pictured) with one. Kelly’s came on a solo homerun in the fifth inning.
Here Marissa Minore gets ready to tag Ebony Barnes on a play at second.
At one point, Matilda Kreider catches one of Olivia Datre pitches.
Sophomore Jenessa Pietruszka had quite a game. Here she rips one for the Hornets.
Since the Cross game the Lady Hornets won two more games against Valley Regional and Sheehan and were 4 – 14 at this point in the season.
