L-R Quintana, Bruno and Kydon.

A 28-year-old man from Meriden named Jellybean Quintana, whom state police had ordered re-arrested after he failed to appear in court on felony risk of injury to a child charges five years ago, was arrested at Motel 6 in Branford Sunday night on a series of felony drug charges.

Quintana, Ivan Bruno, 39, of New Haven and Heather Kydon, 31, of Branford, were arrested in their motel room at 320 East Main St., after police found a stash of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, packaging supplies and other drug paraphernalia in their room. All three have prior criminal records.

Police said Bruno’s girlfriend and their infant child were also in the room. The girlfriend was not arrested and not identified but Capt. Geoffrey Morgan said in an interview that the state’s department of children and families has been notified. The mother was not arrested because there was no probable cause to show her relationship to the drugs, Morgan said.

Sergeant John Alves, who supervised the investigation, said the officers determined the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to Quintana, Bruno and
Kydon. The three were arrested on a variety of felony charges. Police said the drugs were in plain view in the room. They also discovered packaged heroin, crack cocaine and packaging supplies for the distribution of the illegal narcotics, Morgan said.

Earlier in the evening Officer Matthew Clerkin was in the Motel 6 parking lot when he noticed a suspicious white van in the lot. Officer Clerkin noticed Quintana left the van and entered the motel.

He then ran a registration check on the van and when he learned that the van was not properly registered, he and Officers Jay Kaufman and Amber Radomski went to interview Quintana in the motel room.

According to police, once inside the room the officers found Quintana, Bruno, Kydon and Bruno’s girlfriend and their infant child. They also observed a variety of drug paraphernalia and other drugs in plain view.

Bruno and Quintana were charged with a variety of possession of heroin, crack cocaine and other narcotics charges, along with the intent to sell narcotics. They were also charged with risk of injury to a minor. Both were held on a $10,000 bond. Bruno later made bond. Bruno was sentenced in New Haven Superior Court to prison for 15 months in 2007 after pleading guilty to burglary and to violating a protective order.

Kydon, who lives in a condo at 224 Crosswoods Road, was charged with possession of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kydon has a prior criminal record for marijuana possession and larceny but she has not served prison time. Unlike the men, she was released on a promise to appear in New Haven Superior Court on May 19. Bruno is also due in court that day.

Morgan said that Quintana was also held on another outstanding arrest warrant, this one from New Haven police. Quintana was expected to be arraigned Monday.
