Old-School Billboard Seeks New School Engineers

With Permission

When’s the last time a state-of-the art tech company went old school, putting up a billboard seeking to hire software engineers?

That’s what Core Informatics, a growing tech health company in Branford, did this morning when it mounted its first billboard at exit 56 on I‑95 South. The billboard rose through the rain and the fog near the turnoff to its offices at 36 East Industrial Road.

It says: Software Engineers. Come work with Us and Improve Human Health.”

Josh Geballe, the CEO of Core Informatics, believes there may well be talented software engineers who live and work from home on the shoreline. Or they may be subjecting themselves to long commutes,” he told the Eagle in an interview. They may not yet be aware of our company,” he said, adding they are missing out on the fun of being part of dynamic team and an exciting start-up environment with a very important mission.” Click here to read a recent story.

The company’s mission is to provide web-based data management software to bio-tech and other industries to assist in their clients’ research, development, and manufacturing operations. The company is part of an interactive life sciences and technology sector that has taken root in Branford but whose work extends nationally and internationally.

The billboard idea, says Geballe, is designed to appeal to engineers who may not be looking for a job,” but may be living on the shoreline. Or they might be prodded to cut their commute and get off at exit 56.”

He said the company is using traditional recruiting methods, too, as in the World Wide Web. But this advertising effort is closer to home. Billboards, he added, are less expensive than paying recruiters. If we find one great engineer as a result of this billboard, it will easily pay for itself.” The billboard approach has been successful in other parts of the world, he said.

Informatics is also growing. The company, started by two Branford high school friends in 2006, has expanded greatly since Geballe came aboard as CEO in 2013. In 2014 it had 52 employees; now the company employs 91.

Geballe told the Eagle that the company also is in the process of expanding to the lower level of their building, adding another 6,000 square feet to its operation. Their offices upstairs are now 9,000 square feet.

And beyond upstairs is outside and a new billboard with a message that this shop is looking to hire.
