Pick-Up Truck Crashes into Store

A young woman driving a pick-up truck crashed her truck into the Cork Shop liquor store Monday night causing significant damage,” the police said.The driver, who lives in New London, was given a ticket, an infraction, police said, for improperly backing up. 

The crash occurred at 317 East Main Street, the address of the Cork Shop, at about 8:15 p.m.

The driver had first backed away from the building when she realized her truck had lodged onto a telephone pole guide wire.

In an effort to disengage her truck, police said, she accelerated and the truck lurched forward, moving head on into the building.

She struck the building, causing significant damage,” the police said.

Branford Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.

Lt. Kris Hormuth, who commands the evening police shift, said no one was injured in the crash.
