Republican Bob Imperato Seeks State Rep Seat

With Permission

Robert Imperato (pictured), who has expressed interest in the State Representative seat being vacated by Lonnie Reed, formally announced his intent to run for office yesterday.

Imperato appears to be the only Republican candidate who will seek nomination at the Republican Town Committee (RTC) caucus Tuesday.

Three Democrats will be vying for endorsement at the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) caucus May 29. Candidates include Robin Comey, a member of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM); Adrian Bonenberger, a veteran and political newcomer; and John Prins, a member of the Board of Education (BOE).

Reed, who has served as Branford’s State Rep for ten years, recently announced she will not seek a sixth term.

Imperato’s Career

Imperato says his 40 years in the banking business and financial fields will serve well in the state legislature. It’s no surprise that Connecticut is in financial trouble, the only question for voters is: Will we send another politician to Hartford or someone with a proven track record of financial experience?” Imperato said in a prepared statement.

He has been active in the community for more than 30 years; and served on the RTM from 2012 through 2017, where he chaired the committee that oversees public services. He is currently a member of the town’s prestigious Board of Finance, and also the Water Pollution Control Authority. Imperato said he will continue to take a nonpartisan approach to government and do what is right for residents.

Connecticut is at a fiscal tipping point, and Connecticut taxpayers cannot afford a continuation of lackluster job and economic growth,” Imperato said. The timing is right for change in Hartford and I believe I have the right experience, commitment and judgment to help protect Branford taxpayers and address the fiscal problems we all face as Connecticut citizens.”

Imperato and his wife have four children, who all attended Branford public schools.

At the Republican caucus last year, Imperato sought the Republican nomination for tax collector, but was defeated by Sandra Kraus, a finance director at a local Branford company. Click here to read the story. Kraus lost the election in November to Democrat Roberta Gill-Brooks.

The RTC caucus is Tuesday, May 22, at Donovan’s Reef restaurant.

The DTC caucus is on Tuesday, May 29, at Fire Headquarters.
