It’s been a tough season so far for the Branford football team. With a bye week coming up the Hornets are 1 – 5 with their only victory being against Jonathan Law 45 – 21 back on Oct. 6. The Eagle was there as Jackson Seward breaks free on his way to a 32 yard gain for the Hornets.

The Law game gave us a boost,” said coach John Limone. We played well on both offense and defense.” The Eagle picked a good game to cover, as there were a number of bright spots played against the Lawmen. Here is Coach Limone with captains Jake McPartland (L) and Dan Thomas.

Branford racked up a total of 479 yards in the game on offense, 283 rushing and 179 passing. A large crowd was on hand to see the Hornets first win of the season.

And the defense only allowed 21 points in the game, all in the first half and shutting out Law in the second half. That was a good night for sure,” said Limone.

The cheerleaders always show a lot of school spirit during the games.

The Hornets trailed 21 – 17 at the half, but outscored Law 28 – 0 in the second half to secure their only victory to date.

Sophomore quarterback Sean Kelly completed 10 of 19 attempts for 179 yards and one TD, a 22-yard pass to Daniel Thomas. Thomas caught seven passes for 132 yards for an average of 18.8 yards per catch. Kelly also had a touchdown on a one-yard keeper in the third quarter.

More school spirit was provided by the high school band.

Jackson also led the defense with 11 tackles, followed by Parker Landsbach with six and Aiden MacNeil and William Ryder with five. Ryder also made a great play when he blocked a Law punt, which led to Kelly’s touchdown in the third quarter.

The Hornets’ next game is at home against Amity on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
