But that is changing. The winding road that connects Branford and North Branford – more properly known as SR-740, Brushy Plains to Totoket Road – is undergoing a makeover.

ET&L Corporation of Massachusetts was awarded the $6.156 project, which will be broken down into two separate projects, rock excavation and road construction.

The hairpin turn will be eliminated, said ET&L Project Manager Jim Murray, and the road will be reconfigured into a large C. It’s expected to take about two years.

The reconstruction was postponed in 2009 due to a delay in funding from the state and acquisition of properties for the right-of-way. In the meantime, the road was repaved.

The road will remain open during construction although traffic may be reduced to one lane at times.
