Alfred Candido, 90

Alfred J. Candido, 90, of North Haven died peacefully September 24, 2012 in Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of the late Margaret Carmela Ardolino Candido. Father of Mary Ann (Ralph) Santora, Nicholas and the late Richard Candido. Brother of Margaret (Dolly) Avitable and the late Rose Cacace, Sue Simeoli, Mary Criscuolo, Alphonse and Joseph Candido. Grandfather of Richard Candido Jr., Jennifer (Chris) Forslund NHFD, Lisa Candido, Jessica and Jeana Santora. Great grandfather of Ajane’ Santora-Fyne, Kaya, Alexa and Emily Candido, Briana Forslund, Elijah and Ty Ellis and Lanyah McCrea and also survived by several nieces and nephews. Fred was born in New Haven September 30, 1921 to the late Nicola and Louise Annunziata Candido. He was a 1940 graduate of Hillhouse High School and then served his country with honor in the US Navy during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged, Fred joined the New Haven Police Dept. where he worked for 25 years before retiring as a Sergeant. He then began a career as a clerk in the Superior Court for the State of Connecticut over a 35 year period. He was a member of the New Haven Police Centurions. Fred’s family would like to thank the staff at the MICU at Yale for the wonderful care they gave him.

His funeral will leave the IOVANNE FUENRAL HOME, INC. 11 Wooster Pl.. Friday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 11. Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 – 7pm.
