Alfred Gaskins, 73

Alfred K. Gaskins 73 of New Haven,CT has quietly traveled on the road leading to everlasting peace. On July 28, 2011, after short battle with lung cancer and his son by his side, he answered Our Heavenly Fathers call home. He was born in Lake City, SC, the son of the late Henry and Elease (Singletary) Gaskins. Having accepted God as his personal Lord and Savior he was a long and faithful attendant of Ebenezer Chapel. He made this his home church for approximately 3 decades. Whenever he traveled to Lake City, SC he attended services at Nettie’s Temple where the Bishop Leroy Graham presides.

Alfred attended and graduated from Carver High School in Lake City. During these years he was also the school bus driver. As a young man after graduation, he traveled throughout the southern states working various jobs. His travels also took him north finally settling in New Haven, CT He worked for Pond Lily Company in New Haven, CT for many years as a Machine Operator. When they closed, he went to work G and O Manufacturing Company and worked in the same capacity. After working here many years he retired. He enjoyed the work he did and would work whenever he could. In his retirement he would frequently travel back to his home of Lake City enjoying the company of his family and many friends.

Left to celebrate his life is his son, Richard Gaskins of New Haven, CT: brother, Henry Gaskins (Mary) of Dorchester, MA, sisters, Isabell Hannah of Roxbury, MA, Hester Franklin of Lynn, MA and Magalene Gaskins of Roxbury, MA, 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Angelia Dienette Gaskins and brother, Ernest Gaskins.

A celebration of his life will take place Friday, August 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer Chapel; 50 Dwight Street, New Haven, CT with a calling hour at the church from 10 – 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. To leave a message of comfort to the Gaskins family, please visit www.hkhfuneralservices.com.
