Alma Arnetta Thorpe, 73 of New Haven went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2009. Alma was born March 5, 1936 in Fredericksburg, VA to the late James Ferguson and Alma Wormley. Alma was a former Eastern Star, President of Constance Motley Baker Senior Building and was employed at the Dichello Distributors for 25 years until her retirement in 2001. She leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Kelvin T. Thorpe and Kenneth L. Thorpe (Claudette) of New Haven; daughters, Phyllis T. Gregory of East Orange, NJ, Ramona A. McDowell of New Haven; brothers, Charles J. Ferguson (Dorothy) of New Haven, Carl L. Ferguson of Fredericksburg, VA, Lewis D. Ferguson (Emily) of Fredericksburg, VA; sisters, Cora A. Ferguson, Janice L. Turner both of Fredericksburg, VA, Brenda E. Jeter (William) of New Haven and Barbara A. Bates (Nilion) of Fredericksburg, VA and a host of many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Thorpe; daughter, Robin E. Thorpe; brothers, James, William, Welford, Leon Ferguson; sisters, Lorraine Anderson, Juliette Owens and Sharon Ferguson. A celebration of her life will take place Saturday October 3, 2009 at 9AM at Bethel AME Church 255 Goffe St New Haven with Interment following the service at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
