Clara Smith

Clara Frank Smith, 93 of New Haven, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Center. She was the wife of the late Hardy R. Smith. Clara was born on August 1, 1917 in North Carolina to the late Rev. Frank Johnson Sr. and Clara Williams Johnson. She was employed by Duke University for 34 years until her retirement. Clara was a longtime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, NC before joining Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven, CT. She is survived by her daughter Ella J. Smith of New Haven, her grandchildren, Corris, David, and Dana Smith of CT, and Marlano (Felicia) Smith Sr. of GA, her great grandchildren, Marlisha and Marlano Smith Jr. of GA, DeShawn Pittman and Melody Smith of CT, Mallory Smith of W.VA; sisters, Corris Gill of NY; brother, Frank Johnson Jr. New Mexico and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Allen Hamlet, Malissa Woods, Cornelius Johnson and Arthur Hammond. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Tower One and the Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Center. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday September 2, 2010 11 AM at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe Street, New Haven, CT. Friends may call at the church from 10-11AM.
