Claudia Barber

Claudia I. Barber, 91, of New Haven, departed this life January 6, 2010.

Born in Greensboro, NC, February 5, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Rankin.

Prior to retiring, she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.

Ms. Barber was a longtime member of St. Martin DePorres Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, James Barber (Doris); daughters, Claudia Kay and Paula Jackson; an adopted son, William Javon O’Neal; a special nephew, Clarence Stewart; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Kelsie Anderson and Grace Geneva Moses; and brothers, Hubert, Edward, James and Perry Rankin.

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Ms. Barber’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K.
