Derrick Davis Jr. departed this life on December 9, 2011 at the age of 71.
He was born on December 29, 1939 in Georgetown, SC. Derrick was the son of the late Derrick and Alma Neal Davis. At an early age, he attended Trinity AME Church in Hemingway, SC. He obtained his education at Howard and Choppee High Schools in Georgetown, SC where he met Mary M. Patterson Davis and entered into matrimony and moved to New Haven, CT to start a new life. From that union they had three children; Elousie, Mellissa, and Traccey. Derrick worked as a machinist at G&O Manufacturing, Seamless Rubber Company in New Haven, CT, Raybestos Manufacturing Company in Stratford, CT and United Aluminum, in North Haven, CT from which he retired. He leaves to cherish his memory; loving wife, Mary Davis; 3 daughters, Mrs. Elouise (Edward) Lambert of Charlotte, NC; Mrs. Mellissa (late Michael) White of Nottingham, MD and Mrs. Traccey (Michael) Freeman of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Oneta Hutchinson of Hemingway, SC and Fleda Hicks of Norwalk, CT; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Levinia Skinner, Carrie Caesar and Lillian Sumpter and 1 brother Glover Davis. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Pitts Chapel Unified Free Will Baptist Church, 64 Brewster Street, New Haven, CT from 5-7PM with a service of reflection beginning at 7PM. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2PM at Trinity AME Church, 11373 Carvers Bay Road, Hemingway, SC. Interment in Hemingway, SC.
