Derrick Steven Suggs Sr., 53, of New Haven, died suddenly March 18 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
He was the beloved son of Grace Suggs of New Haven, and the late David Suggs. He was born on Aug. 14, 1957, in New Haven.
He was a laborer for Local 455. He loved taking care of his family, cooking and fishing.
He was the proud and loving father of Derricka Suggs-Wilkes, Derrick Suggs Jr., Chiwanna Suggs, Jasmin Suggs, Steven Suggs, stepson Ellis Reaves Jr., and stepdaughter Laniece Gamble. He is also survived by his longtime companion Felisha Dawson (his “wife”) and sisters Fern, Vickie and Dava Suggs, as well as a grandson and three granddaughters.
A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, March 25, at 11 a.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
