Dorcas Wumba-Di-Mazimi, 85

Dorcas Wumba-Di-Mazimi of New Haven passed away January 18, 2012.

Dorcas was born May 22, 1926 to Samuel Mazimi and Anne Gumba in Kinkoko Bas-Congo in the DR of Congo Africa. After obtaining a Nursing Diploma from The Protestant Missionary Medical Complex in Sona-Bata Bas-Congo, (a first during colonial era), she served Belgian Congo and subsequently the newly independent DR of Congo as a Nurse with the Ministry of Health, then as a Public Servant with the Ministry of Justice before returning to the Ministry of Health until her retirement. Even then after, she remained active, volunteering time and services to the needy in her birth place.

She was predeceased by Christian Ngongi-Semi, the grandson she helped raise in New Haven Connecticut, and her late husband Andre Kinsumba of Kinshasa Congo.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children Semi Semi-Dikoko, Annie Gumba-Kinsumba, Luciene Nkebani-Diakiese and son-in-law Simon Ngongi of New Haven, Connecticut; son Maxime Luzolo and daughter in law Helene Ntelo of Kinshasa Congo; stepson Claude Vuaki of Paris France, stepdaughter Esther Moukoundi Dicoco of Montreal Quebec Canada and stepdaughter Célestine Pierrette Dicocon of Lyons France; siblings Rebecca Bilengu, Lia Mazimi, Nsundi Mazimi and Clementine Mbuata of the DR of Congo; cousins Clementine Mpanzu, Madeleine Ndekani, Pierre Mboma, Edgar Mazumbu, Kabuiku Mboma, Lutumba Mboma and Helene Nkuwa of the DR of Congo; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and relatives on four continents.

A celebration of her life will take place Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511. The viewing will take place between 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM followed by a service funeral service between 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon. She will subsequently make her last trip to the DR of Congo where interment will take place among her maternal ancestors.

Dear Semi

My sincere condolences for the loss of someone so special.  I hope today will be a most memorable and joyous celebration to send Dorcas Wumba-Di-Mazimi on her journey to a new beginning. It would appear that she loved lots and is loved a whole lot more. I wish you and your family a great day filled with warm and treasured memories. Lola, London England.
