Dorothy Jackson, 85

Dorothy Jackson, 85, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2013 in CT Hospice, after a brief illness, surrounded by family.

She was the widow of Roy C. Jackson.
Born in Norfolk, VA, June 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Rebecca Staton Sylvia.
She was a member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by daughters, Carol Winston (Nelson), Doris Harris (William), Lorraine Jackson-Jones (Eustace), Joyce Jackson, Gloria Jones (Grady), Cathy Bell (Carlton) and Karen Williams (dear friend, Roosevelt McCrea); a brother, John Sylvia (Elizabeth); sisters, Julia Sturdivant and Josephine Chapman (Sloan); 22 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, William Staton; sisters, Mary Allen, Sarah Riley and Jean Sylvia; a grandson, Roy Michael Jackson; a granddaughter, Holly Robinson; and a great grandson, Gregory Darrell Jackson.
A celebration of Mrs. Jackson’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 9:00 A.M. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St., Hamden. Viewing will be held at the church from 8:00 – 9:00 A.M. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
