Earl “Dinny” Banquer, 92

Earl M. Banquer, affectionately known as “Dinny”, of New Haven died at home Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of Muriel Gurian Banquer. He was born in Cambridge, MA in 1918 to Alfred and Ethel Banquer. His love of music started in elementary school and lasted throughout his life time. He started first as a member of swing bands and later a member of the New Haven Symphony for 20 years. He taught privately as well as in the New Haven public school system for 14 years. He was a member of the Banquer Woodwind Ensemble which he established to provide his clarinet students with a classical chamber music repertoire. He was a graduate of the Yale School of Music and received the Yale School of Music Alumni Association Certificate of Merit in recognition of distinguished service to the greater New Haven community and the School of Music. He also served as a member of the Maritime Service during WWII. Survivors include his sons David (Cheryl) Banquer of Alabama, Daniel (Barbara) Banquer of MA, Jonathan Banquer of CA and a granddaughter Melinda (James) Blanch.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at the Weller Funeral Home at 493 Whitney Ave. Interment in the B’nai Jacob Memorial Park, Wintergreen Ave., New Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to either The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, The Nature Conservancy or Beth El Keser Israel.
