Effie H. Brown, 95, of New Haven, passed away peacefully at her home on March 16, 2017.
She was born to the late James Hickman and Mariah Blackmon Hickman in Vivian, West Virginia on April 14, 1921.
Effie was happily married to the late Jimmy Brown for many years. She worked for the State of Connecticut as a caregiver and enjoyed caring for others. Effie was very involved in her church, Immanuel Missionary Baptist. There, she served as a pastor’s aide and was a part of the Clothes Closet. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Mildred Hickman of North Carolina; sister, Ruth Young of Virginia; 3 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of her life will take place Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Family and friends may call Friday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 am. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511.
