Elmer L. Huckaby Sr., 74

Elmer L. Huckaby Sr., 74, born on November 1, 1940 in New Haven, was the first child born in the Elm Haven Housing projects to the late Eugene Huckaby, Sr. and Annie (Smith) Huckaby.

Elmer passed away January 4, 2015 at Arden House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He will be remembered for his skilled work as a machinist at U.S. Repeating Arms; as well as O.F. Mossberg and Sons Gun Factory. He was also the founder of the New Haven Ravens Basketball Team in the 1970’s. Elmer enjoyed leisurely activities such as bowling, basketball, playing cards and listening to Golden Oldies especially his favorite musician, Sam Cooke.

He leaves to cherish his memory sons; Elmer Huckaby Jr. of Waterbury, Kevin Huckaby of West Haven, David (Annette) Huckaby of Hamden, Scott Huckaby of Hamden, and step daughter Varonica Paca of Charlotte N.C. brothers; Edward (Marsha) Huckaby of VA, Ernest (Judith) Huckaby of MD, Elbert (Eloise) Huckaby of Bristol, sisters; Edith Huckaby Robinson of FL, Elnora Gardin of New Haven, Ezellah Williams of FL, Elaine Goodson of West Haven, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Elmer was predeceased by his brother Eugene Huckaby, Jr.

A celebration of his life will take place Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11AM at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church; 1324 Chapel St., New Haven with visitation Monday at the church from 10 – 11AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen cemetery in New Haven. Services by Howard K.
