Essie Dawson

Essie M. Dawson, 70, of Fountain Terrace, New Haven, departed this life July 24, 2010. She was the widow of Abraham Dawson, Sr.
Born in Dermott, AR, February 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cora Horn.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as an Inspector for 25 years.
She was a foster parent for over 40 years. Mrs. Dawson was a member of Community Baptist Church and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Douglas Dawson; daughters, Barbara Dawson, Michelle Dawson Ledbetter (Samuel Gene) and Mahogany Dawson; a foster son, Dennis Ward; a foster daughter, Sameyka Williams; brothers, Otis, William and Robert Horn; three granddaughters; eight great grandchildren, two step-grandsons; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, foster children; other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Abraham P. Dawson, Jr.; sisters, Elsie Jenkins and Sandra Horn Moore; mother-in-law, Lillie M. Dawson; and father-in-law, Booker T. Dawson.
A celebration of Mrs. Dawson’s life and legacy will be held Friday, July 30, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Online guestbook available at www.curvinkcouncil.com

Essie was the best friend and co-worker you could have in PW North Haven She took me under her wing when I was hired in 1978, Her friendship was so valuable, She was a kind and generus with all her friends, Always had a smile on her face for all and a very beautifl smile nad laughter was the best medicine for us and her,
