Etta Mae Allen

100109_EttaAllen_1.jpgEtta Mae Allen, 90, of New Haven, departed this life September 26, 2009. She was the widow of George Thomas Allen, Jr.
Born in Hawkinsville, GA, July 24, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lucious and Martha McBurrows.
Prior to retiring, she was employed for 20 years at the V.A. Medical Center as a Dietary Aide and was also a member at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, John Thomas Allen; daughters, Mary Ann Curtis and Jeannette Coe (Robert); a special niece daughter”, Margaret Maynard; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Grant; brothers, Herman, Archie and Clem McBurrows; and sisters, Essie Vason and Amanda Wilson.
A celebration of Mrs. Allen’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 8:00 – 9:00 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K.
