Flora Jane Newton, 85, of New Haven, departed this life October 29, 2012.
She was the widow of Joe Newton.
Born in Robeson County, NC, December 31, 1926, she was the daughter of the late P. James Leak and Betty Henigan Leak.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale-New Haven Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.
She was a longtime member of Mt .Calvary Holy Church in New Haven.
Mrs. Newton is survived by sons, Joe H. Newton and James C. Newton (Bessie); daughters, Anne N. Bynoe (Winston) and Flora R. Newton; brothers, Enoch W. and John E. Leak; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by brothers, Henry L., Roy L. and Willie J. Leak; and a sister, Annie L. Gates.
A celebration of Mrs. Newton’s life and legacy will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. at Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 392 Legion Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Burial will be Monday at 9:30 A.M. in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K.
