Garfield Coleman Jr.

Garfield Coleman Jr., 78, of New Haven, departed this life March 18. He was the husband of Rose L. Coleman.

Born in Tuckahoe, N.Y.,  on Aug. 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Garfield Coleman Sr. and Marion Coleman. Prior to retiring, he was employed at G&O Manufacturing as an inspector.

Mr. Coleman was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church. He was an Army veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald Coleman (Alice McNeil); daughters Theresa Coleman-Davis (Henry L. Jr.) and Geraldine Coleman-Dotson; a sister, Ellwood Jean Coleman; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Coleman, and a sister, Rosemary Ellis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 24, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., (corner of Webster St. and Dixwell Ave.) New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
